
As Black people, we get treated a certain kind of way. We
don’t like it, and we have a problem with it, of course. But it’s never taken
on the significance that it has now. It seems that change is inevitable and
real. I feel so many different ways because on the one hand, I am the mayor,
and it’s important to run the city, to do what’s in the best interest of the
city, to make sure people are safe and secure and protected. But on the other
end, I have all these other emotions and feelings going on inside me where I’m
just blown away. I’m hurt on the We didn't practice social distancing baby on the way shirts side, but I’m also hopeful about this
moment and what it’s going to mean for Black people. Finally. This interview
